"Integrated conservation" approach - Trabzon case study

SUMMARY "Integrated Conservation" Approach - Trabzon Case Study Many historical values and cultural environments have been lost or destroyed due to rapid urbanization that brought "the concept of conservation" in to the agenda. However, since the conservation practices, mainly related and perceived as 'single building conservation's physical atributes that has not been successful during the time. To be effective, longlasting and open to development, that has to be looked at as mid-term interest rather than short term. As priority, the concept of conservation has to be widened from single building scales to groups of buildings, to environmental scale and social, cultural, historical, economic aspects of urban environment. Conservation no longer has been understud purely preservation, conservation and protection that has to be understud as "conservation- evaluation- development" in together which is termed as "integrated urban conservation" and is treated in the following chapters. In this thesis, the steps to be followed and precautions to be taken to achieve "integrated urban conservation" are dealth with in the case of Trabzon city. The thesis consists of five chapters: First chapter devoted to the aim and backgrounds of conservation and consepts related to. Second chapter deals with history and development of Trabzon and her cultural assets and the methodology followed. Third chapter devoted the concept of "integrated urban conservation" and means of it in the light of research findings. Fourth chapter highlights the outcomes of research..
