Abstract (EN)

The majority of NSCLC patients with poor prognostic stage III and stage IV are treated with palliative thoracic radiotherapy for palliation of intra-thoracic symptoms. The purpose of this study was protection of normal tissues as possible, and determined the observed changes at GTV during the radiotherapy for palliation. Twenty patients who were treated with palliative thoracic radiotherapy in our clinic between June 2010 and April 2011 were analyzed. Computed tomography images of beginning and fifth days of RT, were contouring for tumor changes during treatment for each patient and were planned adaptive and non-adaptive retrospectively. The mean volume reduction of GTV was 15.9% (-7.7- 41.5). Despite reduction of average GTV, PTV and field size with adaptive planning there was not statistically significant advantage in normal tissue doses. The adaptive planning for tumor volume shrinkage of NSCLC patients could not be reached that will contribute to reduce toxicity at palliative radiotherapy.
