Analysis of settlement names in Iğdir in terms of cultural geography

The province of Iğdır is one of the frontier provinces of the Eastern Anatolia Region, bordering Armenia, Nakhchivan and Iran in the far east of Turkey. The province of Iğdır has hosted many civilizations and communities throughout history due to its location. Because of this feature, the societies that lived on the lands of Iğdır both experienced their cultural characteristics and were effective in their persistence in various areas. Experiencing cultural richness has laid the groundwork for various research topics. In terms of cultural geography, our study named analysis of settlement names in Iğdır province is one of the studies. This work; it has been made for the field of toponymic science. Toponomy is among the study subjects of cultural geography, history, linguistics, etc., as well as science. In this study; The old and new names of the districts in Iğdır province, the central district districts and all the villages connected to the province of Iğdır were examined. The effect of factors such as geographical environment, political structure, ethnicity and human on place naming has been tried to be analyzed. The researches on the place names of the districts, central district neighborhoods and all the villages in Iğdır province were carried out using qualitative research method and content analysis method. Theses, books, articles, electronic media resources etc. sources were examined. For this reason, namings have been made as a result of the effects of the place names of Iğdır Center, Iğdır Merkez district neighborhoods, Aralik, Karakoyunlu, Tuzluca districts and village settlements, such as historical, political, personal names, cultural characteristics, economic and human characteristics, apart from the natural environment.
