The Kurdish question in Turkey from the European Union perspective

Today, the Kurdish Question is still one of the most important problems of Turkey. This problem is also a barrier in front of Turkey to become a member of the EU. If we look at the progress reports, which are released by the EU Commission annually, we can see the importance of the problem in terms of the EU. Because the EU has some values and says quite definitively that if one country wants to become a member of the Union, it has to protect these values. As known, Turkey is a country, which wants to be a member of the Union. In this context, there are some rules that are determined in the Copenhagen Criteria, which Turkey has to fulfill. The EU owed its existence to the values of the European Union. These values are such ones as democracy, respect to human rights, minority rights and freedom of expression which are defined in the European Convention on Human Rights. We also know that, all the states parties to the European Convention on Human Rights have integrated the European Convention on Human Rights with their national legislation. In this way, the European convention on human rights has gained the status of becoming a part of the internal legal system and become binding for the national courts and entire public authorities. The following result comes out from this: the European convention on human rights is binding for each state party and if a decision taken by the national courts is reversed by the European court of human rights, the decision of the European court of human rights will be valid. In this context, since Turkey is one the state parties of the European convention on human rights, we will discuss the situation of Turkey regarding Human rights and minority rights. In this sense, in general, I will try to find answer `how the intention of Turkey to became a member of the EU help the Kurdish question to be solved? in the light of the EU?s value. During analyzing my thesis this question is to be my guide question.
