Abstract (EN)

The East Mediterranean is in the state of a catchment area which has historical and cultural value besides having geographical value as it is in the point of intersection of the world's three most important water routes. It is seen that the East Mediterranean is enmeshed with the complicated relations when added the idealogical side of the Cold War to the issues of Arabian-Israel and Turkey-Greece after the period of World War II. The Mediterranean performs an important part of the host to the heavy traffic of the world's oil and natural gas occuring with system of pipelines and tankships. As armed conflicts and terror attacks has negative effects on regional stability and seaborne trade, the associations such as NATO, the European Union, OSCE and the United Nations have to make an attempt to scale up the possibilities of cooperation. Additionally, the authority struggle of countries having global effects such as USA, the Russian Federation, China, England and France forms their regional safety strategies. The East Mediterranean is an artery of commerce and energy source in the middle of World's conflict regions. Therefore, under the present circumstances, it is approved that there should be studies and observations embracing regional and global concepts and policies which takes the best part of the Middle East and the overall of the Mediterranean for finding an answer to the question of whether there should be a regional stability and safety in the East Mediterranean or not. Even though it gains acceptance by the parties that there is a necessity of participator and righteous structuring for supplying the safety and stability in the Mediterranean, ıt is came to a conclusion that there can not be an effective structuring in the short or medium term when it is behaved personal interest-centered with respect to the conclusions of the East Mediterranean problems.
