Abstract (EN)
Free radicals are occured as a result of the vital functions in organism. Free radicalsare important substances , but because they are highly reactive, they can react with biomolecules, cause to deteriorate their structure and form toxic compounds to cells. Antioxidant substancesmight reduce or fix harmful effects of free radicals by reacting with them.In this study, antioxidant activity of rose hips (from Gümüşhane and Zonguldak) extractswhich obtained with methanol, water and ethyl acetate are investigated. In addition, plant extracts?antimicrobial activity and their enzyme inhibitory effects against carbonic anhydrase (CA) wereinvestigated. Total phenolic content of aqueous and methanol extracts are examined as theequivalent of gallic acid and catechin; iron (III) reducing / antioxidant power (FRAP) of methanol, ethyl acetate and aqueous samples are examined by Trolox ® standard; DPPH radical scavengingactivity of methanol, ethyl acetate and aqueous samples are examined by the BHT and Trolox ®standards; carbonic anhydrase activity of aqueous samples are examined by acetazolamide andsulfonyl amide standards; antimicrobial activity are examined and compared with standard drugswhich are ampicillin, cefazolin, and nystatin.Aqueous extracts of leaf and branch parts are found to have inhibitory effect on the CAenzyme. The extracts of ethyl acetate and methanol are found to have antimicrobial properties.Methanol extracts of leaf, branch and core parts are seen to have high antioxidant activity.Antioxidant properties are concordant with the online-HPLC-FRAP and offline-FRAP methods. As a result of this study branch and leaf parts show high bioactivity and it will be useful toinvestigate the compounds in rose hip plant that are responsible for this activity.
