Abstract (EN)

SUMMARY Temporal Variation of Cross-Shore Sediment Transport In order to understand the features of coastal zone and to utilize the costal areas, it is necessary to determine the sediment movement and the resulting transport. Waves, topographic features and material parameters are the most important factors to affect the sediment movement and coastal profiles. In this study, by taking in the consideration of wave height and period, bed slope and sediment diameter, the temporal variation cross-shore sediment transport was studied in a physical model and temporal rate coefficients (a) were determined by regression analysis. The study comprises seven chapters and appendices. In the first chapter, general knowledge about wave mechanics, sediment transport and equilibrium beach profile as well as a general literature review are presented. In the second chapter, the performed studies are given. In the third chapter, the results obtain from both experimental studies and regressional analysis are presented. In the fourth chapter, the temporal rate coefficients obtained from both experiments regression equations are compared and the dependency of a values the independent variables are studied. In the fifth chapter, the conclusions of the study are given. In the sixth chapter, the recommendations for future studies are presented. In the appendices, the temporal variations of coastal profiles for selected experiments, are graphically given. It was concluded that, the wave height was the most important parameter on a values. It was also concluded that, an increase in wave height and bed slope resulted in incrase, and an increase in sediment diameter and wave period resulted in decrease, in the speed at which equilibrium beach profile was attained. Key Words: Cross-Shore Sediment Transport, Erosion Profiles, Bar Volume, Equilibrium Profile, Temporal Variation Vll
