Abstract (EN)
This study aims to examine the development and outcomes of the lying flat movement among emerging adults from their perspective. The lying flat movement refers to the tendency of emerging adults to adopt a minimalist lifestyle due to factors such as social pressures, economic uncertainties, and individual dissatisfaction. Conducted in accordance with a qualitative research design, the study evaluated data obtained through semi-structured individual interviews and focus group discussions using thematic analysis. Participants defined the lying flat movement as a form of resistance against economic pressures, career concerns, and social expectations, as well as an alternative lifestyle. It was determined that the movement has positive effects such as individual freedom, psychological relief, and satisfaction with life; however, it also leads to negative outcomes such as a departure from social conformity, loss of motivation, uncertainty, and social isolation. Additionally, it was observed that participants were more selective in their social relationships and tended to form connections with individuals who share similar values. In academic life, this lifestyle has been found to contribute to a decline in performance in some individuals and to inner peace and balance in others. At the end of the study, the fundamental dynamics that play a role in emerging adults' adoption of this movement were discussed, and recommendations for future research were made.
