The fungi species determined on body surface of people living in Malatya region

ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to detect and identify fungi species in skin of human beings according to the morphplogical and cultural characteristics of these fungi. Samples were taken from different sites of bodies of individuals attending our hospital during 2000-2001 due to dermatological problems. and diseases. They included skin, nail and hairs. As a result of this study, 40 species of fungi belonging to 12 genera of Ascomycota and Deuteromcota divisions of different classes and orders were identified The percentages of identified dermatophytes were % 12.5 Trichophyton, % 5 Epidermophyton and % 2.5 Microsporum. They were Trichophyton rubrum, T. mentagrophytes., T. verrucosum, T. tonsuras, T. cerebriforme, Microsporum canis and Epidermophyton floccosum, E. interdigitale. Candida spp. were detected in % 10. They belonged to C. albicans, C. krusei, C. guillermondi, C. tropicalis. Additionally, in mechanic skin injuries other fungi such as Aspergillus spp. (32. 5%) ve Penicillium spp. (20.0%) were detected. Other fungi such as Trichosporon beigelii, and Blastomycetes capitus were also found in this study.Key words: Skin fungi, Mycosis, Malatya, Deuteromycota, Ascomycota, Dermatophytes
