Abstract (EN)
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is safe only if we take safety precautions. Inthe presence of a metallic implant inside the body, three types of magnetic ï¬eldsencountered in MRI (Static magnetic ï¬eld, radiofrequency ï¬eld, gradient ï¬eld)may become the sources of safety problems. In this thesis, temperature increasecreated by a pacemaker under MRI is investigated. Electromagnetic simulationsare performed, in-vivo, phantom experiments are conducted and ï¬nally bioheatequation is solved to ï¬nd the corresponding temperature increase. Using thistemperature increase the input power can be limited to ensure safe scans. MRIcompatible lead design is the essential innovation of this thesis which is directlyapplicable to any kind of metallic, wire shaped interventional MRI device.Keywords: Magnetic Resonance Imaging, metallic implant, pacemaker, bioheattransfer, interventional MRI.iii
