Determination of natural disaster literacy levels of MEB AKUB team: Bolu case

The aim of this study is to determine the level of awareness and literacy of teachers working in Bolu Province against natural disasters. The study was carried out with the MEB AKUB team of 60 people working at different levels in the province of Bolu, affiliated with the Provincial Directorate of National Education. Within the scope of the study conducted with the quantitative research method, a three-part survey was applied to teachers. In addition to measuring the behavioral and cognitive levels of the participants, a scale consisting of test questions was used to measure their knowledge levels. The data were analyzed using different methods such as descriptive statistics, independent sample t test, and ANOVA in the SPSS program. It was determined that the participants' behavioral and emotional tendencies towards natural disasters were very high. On the other hand, it was determined that natural disaster knowledge levels were at medium level. It has been determined that the reason for the high behavioral and affective tendencies is related to the participants' constant participation in disaster activities, doing drills and actively engaging in search and rescue activities. It has been determined that the level of knowledge is at a medium level because the subject is completely theoretical and oriented towards remembering. Our study is important in terms of filling the gap regarding natural disaster literacy that we have just encountered in the literature, contributing to the field, making some suggestions to eliminate the deficiencies of teachers working in formal education, and to develop curricula and training programs to be prepared. It will also create an idea to guide researchers who want to study the subject.
