Investigation of risk analysis methods to be applied in marble quarries - A case study

Turkey has an important place among the marble reserves of the world with its marble reserves and quality. Marble quarry management an occupational sector based on human physical strength. In Turkey, since marble quarries are generally small-scale working places occupational health and safety measures are not considered enough and they are not under control. In order to make the marble quarry operations more reliable in terms of safety at work, it is necessary to identify the dangerous situation and the causes of the faults following the risk analysis before the accidents. Risk analysis is one of the most important actions that should be taken to eliminate the results of occupatipnal accidents damage. In this study, present hazards were determined by using Failure Mode and Effects Analysis method in a marble enterprise operating in Turkey. The risk scores for these hazards identified in the enterprise were calculated and the hazards identified in the risk analysis made with a different method were interpreted with the help of the calculated risk scores. In addition, the measures to be taken in order to eliminate the high risk resources or minimize the risks have been determined.
