ABSTRACTM. Sc. ThesisOPTIMIZATION of ELECTRIC ENERGY CONSUMPTION in MARBLECUTTING MACHINESSaid Mahmut ÇINARAfyon Kocatepe UniversityGraduate School of Natural and Applied SciencesDepartmant of Electric EducationSupervisor: Prof. Dr. Hasan ÇİMENIn this study, electric energy consumption in the marble cutting process and cuttingparameters effecting this consumption are investigated. PC based block cutter withcircular diamond saw blade is used for cutting experiments. Two parameters areexamined for Bilecik Beige Limestone and Denizli Travertine. These are workpiecetravel speed and saw blade rotation speed. In first stage of experiments, workpiece travel speed and saw blade rotation speedeffecting active power are examined. In second stage, active power and arithmeticmeans of line currents are calculated and effects of parameters to these means areobserved. Finally parameters effecting specific cutting energy are investigated. As aresult, it is understood that if the correct cutting parameters are determined, energyconsumption can be optimized.2007, 111 pagesKeywords: PC based instrumentation, Energy Optimization, Programming
