Abstract (EN)
This study investigates the interaction of natural light with the decorations of the Midas Monument and explores the possibilities of original woven surface designs through an impressionistic approach. The field literature research on the Midas Monument has provided data suggesting that the monument was constructed considering its relationship with natural light. The aim of this study is to develop suggestions for original woven surface designs using an impressionistic approach inspired by the decorations of the Midas Monument. In the research conducted in the YÖK (Higher Education Council) database, the relationship of the Midas Monument with light has not been addressed in the context of Impressionism and textile surface techniques. Therefore, the interpretation of the interaction between the decorations of the Midas Monument and natural light through a textile technique associated with an art movement emphasizes the significance of this thesis. A comprehensive literature review on the Impressionism movement was conducted in the research, exploring the implications of applying an Impressionistic approach to architectural elements and textile design. The focus was on the architectural features of the Midas Monument, the construction method of the decorations, and the composition technique. The monument was visited, photographs were taken, and the light, shadow, and color values of the decorations were observed at different times. Original woven surface designs for the decorations were realized using weaving techniques. The objectives of this research are to contribute to the literature in the field of textile design and art, emphasize the importance of in-depth exploration of cultural heritage elements, provide unique textile design proposals for a city's culture, and ensure that the findings are beneficial to researchers, artists, and designers. Keywords: İmpressionism, Midas Monument, Knitting.
