Abstract (EN)
Mukay Elebayev is among the most distinguished figures in Kyrgyz literature. This study begins with an in-depth investigation to comprehend the unique aspects that distinguish Elebayev from other writers, particularly in his direct portrayal of Kyrgyz society's way of life and the challenges experienced during his era. Our research is structured into two main sections. The first section explores the author's biography, literary identity, and his body of work. Elebayev's novel Uzak Col (The Long Road) holds a significant position in literature, as it aims to convey the socio-historical conditions of its time to contemporary audiences. The novel serves as a cautionary narrative, offering insightful reflections on societal issues. Elebayev consistently endeavors to steer society toward moral and aesthetic ideals by crafting literary works that emphasize humanitarian values. The second section of this study examines a pioneering work in Kyrgyz literature, analyzing its structural and thematic characteristics. The structural analysis is conducted through seven fundamental elements: plot, text type, time, setting, character composition, narrative perspective, and extratextual objective components. By frequently referencing historical events, the study ensures a precise understanding of the novel's thematic framework. Additionally, in the thematic analysis, insights from disciplines such as sociology, history, and psychology are incorporated to illuminate the enduring impact of historical events on society. Elebayev's novel critically examines major societal issues, including regime crises, corruption, and exploitation, providing a thematic perspective on these concerns. Furthermore, the translation of the novel into multiple languages has facilitated its journey toward universality, allowing it to become the voice of the Kyrgyz people—one that they have long sought to project to the world, yet struggled to do so. Certain policies implemented by states have endured over the years, sometimes shaping the future and at other times revealing the socio-geographical disadvantages inherent in the region. Throughout history, Kyrgyz society has interacted with various states; however, literature has played an essential role in confronting the harsh realities of these encounters. The novel's autobiographical elements further enhance its credibility, fostering a sense of authenticity that resonates with readers. Ultimately, Mukay Elebayev, both as the author and as the protagonist of his own narrative, successfully exposes the oppression inflicted upon the Kyrgyz people under Tsarist Russian rule.
