Conservatism and conservative policies of the Democratic Party during 1950-1954 period

At the present, both world and Turkey's politics experiencing a period in which conservative tendencies are getting stronger and societies are supporting these tendencies. This situation directing researchers to explore the historical roots of the subject. Turkey and the surrounding regions maintaining the import tradition in respect to political ideologies as in the other matters. Yet, in Turkey ideologies are differantiating through a transformation. Turkey, unlike the European countries from which the ideologies were stemmed, tracking a different path in its historical, economic and cultural process and being shaped by its own determiners and dynamics had the same tendency in conservatism too. Conservatism that can differantiate even from England to continental Europe takes a new form in this geography. Especially the 1950-54 period in which conservative tendencies were appeared in Turkey is the field that will be taken under scrutiny. New power center after the single party which was considered as the basis of the political understanding of the present day will be the subject of this dissertation. The Democratic Party period, which had a primary importance in Turkish political history, and consolidation of conservative understanding had a correspondance. It can be observed that the Party and conservative intellectuals were on good terms between the 1950-54, a period in which critics of the previous period and its principles were intensive. The points that will tried to be illuminated are conservatism which took its own shape in Turkey and policies of the Democratic Party which assumed a vanguard of people role by carrying the banner of conservatism in political arena. By uncovering the path with an informative excavation, traditional march of the Turkish conservatism will be presented.
