Analysis of polyphonic choir courses program designs in music teacher training programs

The purpose of this research is to examine polyphonic choir curriculum designs in music teacher training programs. The study was prepared using the case study technique, one of the qualitative research methods. The research was conducted in two stages, and in the first stage, a semi-structured interview form was prepared by the researcher. In the second stage of the research, document analysis was used and, in this context, course information packages/catalogues on the websites of institutions that train music teachers were examined. The population of the research consists of 26 universities with music teaching programs in Turkey, the sample consists of universities that have updated/revised their teaching programs in 2022, and the study group consists of the department heads of 14 universities participating in the research. A semi-structured interview form was used as a data collection tool. The data obtained was interpreted using the content analysis technique. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the polyphonic choir course was insufficient in the music education sections of the standard program prepared by the Council of Higher Education in 2018, and in this context, in line with the transfer of authority of the Council of Higher Education, the universities in the working group made revisions in their programs. As a result of the research, suggestions regarding the current situation and new studies are presented.
