Competencies of music teachers in the field of special education and their ideas on what is expected from them

This research aims to determine the proficiency of music teachers in the field of speacial education with the ideas of music teachers working in the field of special education and to determine the expectations of speacial education field from music teachers. The research is valuable in terms of determining the causes why music teachers prefer to work at schools for special education¬, finding out the problems they experience when they start working for special education schools, stating what their professional moods are throughout the working period at special education schools, determining the problems of adapting their knowledge of the field to individuals with special needs depending on the formation education they get, revealing the capability to carry out the education process in cooperation with special education teachers and determining the expectations of people (special education teachers and parents) involved in the learning process at special education schools. The study has been carried out with the qualitative research method based on the scanning model. Data have been collected through face to face interviews and video conferences with a semi structured interview form. The questions have been prepared to learn the competencies of music teachers working at special education institutions in the field of speacial education and the expectations of the speacial education field from music teachers. As a consequence of this research, it has been conferred that experience and knowledge in the field of speacial education are significant. It has been known that the reason for the adverse situations experienced is derived from inexperience.
