Abstract (EN)
NATO, which emerged as a result of the bipolar world, is the most effective and oldest collective defense organization. Established for collective defense against a possible attack, NATO has needed members and an expansion strategy to remain politically and militarily effective since its establishment. Developments in the countries bordering NATO, global realities, changing military and political conditions, and new dynamics that have started to be defined for the first time on a global scale, and especially the possibility of the outbreak of a new world war, which has been frequently voiced, have affected NATO's expansion strategy. In this context, it is very important to trace the course of development of NATO's enlargement strategy in the process and to understand the function and role of the memberships in order to reveal the structural characteristics of NATO, which is such an old and influential international organization. It is necessary to trace the effects of Sweden's membership, which is a result of the Russian-Ukrainian War, the last leg of the enlargement strategy, as reflected in realpolitik both in Europe and in the rest of the world, in order to evaluate the political and military environment that is likely to emerge on a world scale in the coming days.
