NAZMÎ'S DÎVÂN (ANALYSIS-TEXT) The nineteenth century was a long and tiring century for the Ottoman Empire, with serious problems in the fields of military, politics, economy, law, education, etc. During this period, various steps were taken by the rulers of the state to stop this bad trend through innovation and change movements. In short, this century was an era of renewal and Westernization for the Ottoman Empire. As a result of the radical changes in many fields with the Tanzimat Edict, the Islahat Edict and the declaration of the Constitutional Monarchy, a conflict between old and new emerged in the field of literature. Although classical Turkish literature continued its influence until the beginning of the 20th century, after Sheikh Galip, it could no longer return to its former glory days and gradually gave way to a new understanding of literature shaped by the influence of French literature. In addition to this new understanding of literature that started to develop, artists who continued the classical tradition continued to grow in this century. One of these artists is Nazmî. There is no information about Nazmî's life in biographical sources. According to the information obtained from Dîvân, Nazmî is an artist who lived and worked in the second half of the XIXth century. Based on the poems in his Dîvân, it is possible to say that he had the knowledge and skills required by classical literature. Nazmî's Dîvân is organized as an irregular and non-sequential dȋvȃn. The only known copy of the work is registered in Izmir National Library, Manuscripts Section, number 1559. The work consists of 227 pages. The work contains a total of 320 verses belonging to different verse forms and genres. All of these verses are in Turkish. Nazmî uses a fluent, warm, sincere, clear and simple language in his poems. The common feature that stands out in both religious and non-religious poems of the poet is his lively, sincere, plain and fluent style. He used both aruz and syllabic meters in his poems. He also paid attention to the elements such as rhyme and red rhyme that provide harmony. In his poems, he sincerely expresses both his deep affection for the Ahl al-Bayt and the cruelty and sorrow he feels for them, especially in Karbala.
