Women i̇n Nermi̇n Yildirim's novels

This study focuses on examining various aspects of female characters in the novels of Nermin Yıldırım, one of the important writers of modern Turkish literature. The author, who has written seven novels in nine years, places female characters at the center of her novels. The author, who approaches these female characters through the concept of "memory," seeks to reveal the effects of the past on the present. The women she places at the forefront of all her novels are flawed, psychologically troubled, lonely, and alienated characters whose roots lie in the past. At this point, this study examines the female characters in Yıldırım's novels who, with their different characteristics, troubled appearances in the individual and social spheres, struggle to find their own "self," sometimes stumble, fall, lose, sometimes resist, transform, and find joy in life. The first section of the study addresses the development of the concept of womanhood, the changing place of women in Turkish society, and their reflections in Turkish literature. The second section provides information about the author and her works. In the third section, the women portrayed in Nermin Yıldırım's novels are examined in light of individual, social, and psychological phenomena. Within this framework, the female protagonists who occupy a significant place in Yıldırım's novels are examined in all their aspects.
