Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to analyze the homothetic ideas in the field of politics of Niccolo Machiavelli, the pessimist thinker of the Renaissance Period, which is the cornerstone of the modern period, and Thomas Hobbes, who lived in the tricky period of 17th century England. The first part of the study, which consists of two main parts, was carried out specifically for Niccolo Machiavelli. It is possible to say that many balances in economic, political and military fields have changed after the Renaissance movement, which started due to both its geographical location and the social and political events experienced in this period in Italy. In this period, Machiavelli, who was born into the aforementioned geography, is one of the thinkers who used his weight in favor of the modern period, not the classical period, in the changing balances. He is a politician who thinks that the desperate Italian geography that exists in the current period can only be destroyed by opportunist actions, aims to establish a nation state in Italy as a goal, and tries to achieve this goal by giving works and advices in this direction throughout his active and passive political life. In our study, detailed explanations of Niccolo Machiavelli's government, state, leader and army were made and his thoughts were tried to be explained in detail. The second part of the study was carried out specifically for Thomas Hobbes. In 17th century England, the disagreements in the political context moved directly to the military. After this situation, the geography of England witnessed three different civil wars in the mentioned century. Born in this complicated region, Thomas Hobbes naturally paralleled his political thoughts that he put forward with these events and displayed his humanitarian and political ideas in a pessimistic and pessimistic framework. In the study, first of all, the tricky structure of the geography in which Thomas Hobbes was born was mentioned, then the potential evil of man in the state of nature was mentioned, and finally, concepts such as contract, state, law and violence were included and Thomas Hobbes' understanding of politics was tried to be explained. The opinions of the mentioned thinkers have been transferred to the present thesis in parallel with the examination of first-hand sources. In the main parts of the study, the factors that should exist in the political structure such as the state, the leader, the army were examined in terms of both thinkers, and finally the common points where Machiavelli and Hobbes met were tried to be determined. Key Words: Machiavelli, state, Hobbes, law, state of nature
