Abstract (EN)

Burnout syndrome is a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged and intense stress. Although burnout is observed to occur in all areas of life, it is also recognized as a condition that is frequently encountered in business life. The aim of this study is to determine the level of burnout syndrome among surplus teachers working in public schools in Malatya. This research was conducted using the quantitative research method, and the descriptive survey model was preferred. The data collection instruments included the 26-item Teacher Professional Burnout Scale and a 6-item Demographic Form. The population of the study consisted of surplus teachers working in public schools in Malatya. The participants were 372 surplus teachers working in public schools in the central districts of Malatya during the 2024-2025 academic year. The sample was selected using the maximum variation sampling method from within the population. Quantitative data were collected from participants through online and face-to-face administration of the scale and demographic form and were analyzed using the SPSS-26 statistical program. In the analysis of the data, descriptive analysis methods such as mean scores, standard deviation, and frequency, as well as the Independent Samples T-Test and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), were applied. As a result of the data analysis, it was determined that the majority of participants experienced a moderate level of professional burnout. Gender, age, and educational background did not show a significant difference in terms of professional burnout. However, professional experience, teaching branch, and the school level at which teachers worked demonstrated significant differences in terms of burnout levels. Finally, the study presents findings related to teachers' professional burnout levels and offers recommendations for future research on similar topics.
