Abstract (EN)
This study explores similarities and dissimilarities between Oblomov type in Gonçarov's Oblomov and Sayru type in Selim İleri's Mel'un's, both of whom represent and symbolize the community they lived in. This work aims to highlight the actual factors that push the types into passivity, lack of communication, failure and depression, having their sources in societies' corruptness and problems. Gonçarov criticizes Russian society's conventionality, laziness and dormant form of the East by picturing Oblomov, similarly in İleri's Mel'un, Sayru's dilemmas and his disharmony with society arise from social identity problems and social devolution. Both Gonçarov and İleri, rendering their own community's problems by picturing those two types, concentrate on consequences of traditionalism, fraudulence, self-seeking and making no progress bringing forth the possibility of societal traumas.
