The summarizing skills of pre-servi̇ce teachers on listened texts

Abstract (EN)

In this research, pre-service teachers' summarizing skills on listened texts is emphasized. The group consists of 152 final class students of 2017-2018 education year of Department of Turkish Languages Education, Social Sciences Education, Science Education, Primary School Educationin Ahi Evran University. In the research, two types of text were used; informative text and event.- based text. The summaries that were created by teacher trainees were evaluated by using "Summarizing Strategies Scoring Scale". The listening summaries created by the teacher trainees were evaluated according to writing a tittle, the correct use of the point of view, the correct use of the narrative mode, choosing the important information, deleting the unimportant information not including out- of- text information, writing in a consistent way and shortening strategies. In the research, meaningful differences have been seen in the informative text summaries, not including out of text knowledge summaries and use of shortening strategies compared to other strategies and teacher trainees have been successful over the overage. It's observed that the use of writing tittle, correct use of the point of view the correct use of narrative mode, choosing the correct important information, deleting the unimportant information strategies have been in a meaningful difference, It's detected that the teacher trainees have problems in applying these strategies. It's observed hoot, while summarizing the informative text, the teacher trainees didn't use title, they summarized the text in a first person plural point of view in present continues tense. In event- based text summaries meaningful differences have been observed in teacher trainees' choosing the important information, not including out-of-text information, using the correct point of view strategies. Female students have been accepted successful in using the correct point of view and shortening and male students have been accepted successful in choosing the important information, not including out-of-text information using the correct point of view.
