Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to synthesize some azomethine compounds which have a potential of being a component of small moleculed organic light emitting diode (sm-OLED) and investigate their physical and chemical properties by means of experimental data and the computational calculations. In the first stage of this study, thirteen novel azomethine compounds were obtained as a result of the condensation reaction of 2-hydroxy-5-(2-thiophenyl)benzaldehyde, which was synthesized using Stille coupling method and different amines bearing pyridine and benzene ring. The structral characterization of the studied molecules were carried out using FTIR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR spectroscopic technics. In the second stage of the study, the computational calculations were carried out using DFT method to obtain elemental analysis, FTIR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, UV-Vis data and HOMO-LUMO band gap energy. Then, the solvatochromic properties of synthesized azomethine compounds were investigated in six different solvent using UV-Vis spectroscopy. The experimental HOMO-LUMO band gap energy values were determined from the absorption spectra.
