The effect of organizational politics on toxic behavior

Organizational factors and individual characteristics, interact, affecting employees' perceptions, attitudes and behaviors. This interaction is not always positive. Organizational politics is the effort individuals using organizational resources to protect and increase their own interests. If organizational politics emerges with negative aspects, it causes behaviors that are described as toxic. The fact that individuals cause destructive and permanent damage to the organization when they are exposed for a long time by working towards their own interests express toxic behavior. Organizational politics and toxic behaviors, expressed as the dark side of organizations, create effects that decrease organizational commitment, motivation, efficiency and job satisfaction. In addition, it increases employees' job stress, burnout, organizational alienation and intention to quit. It is extremely important to investigate these concepts in order to understand how to combat organizational politics and toxic behavior that have negative effects on organizational activities. The aim of this study, is to investigate the effect of organizational politics on toxic behavior. The sample consists of 113 people working in the municipality in Afyonkarahisar. Data collection was done through the questionnaire form. In the first part of the questionnaire form, there is demographic information and in the second part, organizational politics scale and perceived organizational toxicity scale. The data collected from the participants were analyzed by frequency analysis, reliability analysis, t test, analysis of variance, correlation analysis and regression analysis. According to the results of the research, it has been determined that organizational politics has significant effect on toxic behavior.
