Abstract (EN)
In this research, the effects of self-esteem on the secondary school students' (5th,6th,7th and 8th graders) creative thinking have been examined. The population of the study consists of the students of secondary school who attend the schools in the central district of Göktürk in İstanbul province during 2017- 2018 education year. The sample of the study was formed by a total of 415 students (209 boys,206 girls) with the method of simple random sampling. In this research, as scales of measurement, those have been used : " Personal Information Form" which was developed by the researcher in compliance with the literature, "Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale" (short form,1965) which was developed by Çuhadaroğlu (1986) and Tuğrul (1994), "The scale of Creativity (How creative are you?)" translated into Turkish by Aksoy (2004) with the aim of measuring students' creativity, and " the scale of How Creative are you" taken by Whetton and Cameron (2002). The significance level is 0,05. The tools of data collection have been applied to the students by the researcher. Mann Whitney U test has been used with the aim of examining self-esteem in accordance with the levels of creative thinking skills. Besides, Kruskal Wallis test has been used to determine whether self-esteem and creative thinking skills differ considering the grade level. When the results of the results of the research were examined, it had been observed that creative thiking skills and self confidence differ amongst thetwo genders, whether they are in private or public school.The other variable that may contribute to this difference would be the regular attandence to class. While creative thinking skills and selfeseem had been observed with those wtih high level of creative thinking skills.
