The use of fuzzy logic in determining the academic success of secondary school students in mathematics class

Abstract (EN)

The study aims examine comprehensive logical methods in determining elaborate academic achievements of secondary schools in mathematics, to examine the result diversity and similarity of classical logic and fuzzy logic, and to create a model regarding the academic achievements of mathematics courses in general. The research data consists of the written notes of the 1st Term 1st and 2nd Mathematics course of the 2023-2024 academic year in Kütahya. The study consists of 876 students' written scores 4 secondary schools in the center of Kütahya. To determine the academic achievement of secondary school students in mathematics, a fuzzy logic-based two-input and single-output system was designed using the Fuzzy Logic Toolbox in the Matlab program. The students' mathematics course 1st and 2nd written grades data were determined as input variables, and the students' achievement status was determined as the output variable. A total of 9 fuzzy rules were created after the defuzzification process use the Mamdani fuzzy inference model. The academic success of secondary school students in mathematics was evaluated first with the classical method and then with the designed fuzzy-based model. The results were compared withthose obtained by the traditional and fuzzy method using descriptive statistics, t-Test and Pearson's r test using the Spss. According to the results obtained, It has been observed that there is a high positive relationship between the fuzzy logic method and the classical logic method. It was as academic success score obtained the fuzzy logic method was less than the classical logic method for grades 5 th, and 7 th . But it was obtained fuzzy logic method was more than classical logic method for grades 6 and 8. As a result of the comparison of fuzzy logic and classical logic. There is a significant difference for 5th, 6th and 7th grades but there isn't a significant difference for 8 th. A conclusion was reached in favor of fuzzy logic as the fuzzy logic method gives more flexible results.
