Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted in a descriptive and relational survey model to evaluate the reading motivation of secondary school students in terms of various variables. The sample of the research consists of 997 students determined by case sampling from 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students studying in secondary schools in Kırşehir in the 2021-2022 academic year"Personal Information Form", "Reading Motivation Scale", "Reading Attitude Scale" prepared by the researcher and "Reading Comprehension Test" prepared by choosing from scholarship exam questions applied in previous years were used to collect the data of the research. According to the findings obtained in the study, it was seen that the reading motivation, internal and external motivation levels of the secondary school students in Kırşehir, as a result of this, their reading attitude and reading success were at a high level. In addition, it was found that the ınternal motivation averages of the participants were higher than the external motivation averages. However, female students outnumber male students; those who study in the lower class are those who study in the upper class; those who do not have a library and a room at home; those who have more daily reading time and the number of books read in the last year are less; It has been found that the average scores in terms of reading motivation, attitude and success in reading are higher than those with a stove in the heating status of the house. In addition, as the number of mobile phones owned, the number of active social media accounts and the time spent on the Internet increase, it has been determined that the reading motivation, reading attitude and reading success averages decrease negatively. There was no significant difference between the participants' mother and father education levels and their reading motivation. However, a high level of positive correlation was observed between reading motivation, attitude and success. As a result of the study, positive and negative variables with reading motivation, attitude and success were determined and some suggestions were made to researchers, administrators, families and educators.
