The importance and function of explanatory text types in Turkish lessons at secondary school

One of the most important factors which makes the people successful in their lives, using the language correctly and effectively. Bringing up members who can express a text they have listened in a verbal or written way provides the basis in today`s modern educational and teaching apprehension. Individuals who have verbal and written expression ability will communicate better in social life. These good communication will increase the quality of education and teaching and also this will help to bring up better quality pupils. It is a very important thing in verbal and written expression that students should use the suitable expression types for the subject. In this respect, in our work it is analyzed if expression types are placed in teacher guide books and workbooks of secondary school of 5, 6, 7 and 8th grades or not. And also it is analyzed what achivements these lessons provide for students. It is mentioned that the role of the expression types on developing students` verbal and written expression abilities. In addition it is focused on how this subject can be more functional in turkish lessons. In the first part of the thesis, it is pointed out the aim the importance and the methods of the thesis. In the second part, conceptual framework is created. In the third part of the thesis 5, 6, 7 and 8th grades turkish teacher guide books, course books and workbooks are evaluated in terms of expression types. Finally in the fourth part of the thesis the findings are evaluated and it is offered some suggestions.
