Socio-economic and health conditions of war invalids from Ottoman to the Republic: 1877-1939

Throughout history wars have caused great social ruins. Immigrations, epidemic diseases, decrease in population, economic distresses, famine and social depression are some of these. Some groups have felt this ruin in deep. Slavers, immigrants, victims of disasters, martyr families, orphans and disabled soldiers etc. There isn?t any academic studies about disabled veterans of these groups. For this reason, in this study in this dissertation the soldiers? who had been disabled from 1877 to 1939 and their health, social and economic conditions and the regulations that are taken about this situation are evaluated.The disabled veterans problem have started to come to order paralel to humal rights evolution after the French Revolution. In particular, starting from 19th century, sensibility on the topic have been increased on the international stage. The Geneva Contract signed in 1864 has been an important footstep for his reason. Then contract has ensured the rights of the war victims.In Ottoman Empire, the regulations about the war victims have improved in paralel to the modernization. Besides this, Ottoman Empire had attended in the wars in 19th century and after had resulted in big disasters and loss in human lives. These losses had caused the community and the government in trouble and obliged them to take some precautions against it. Depending on this, structural precautions had been taken on military health matters, with retired laws the disabled veterans? social and economic conditions had been tried to be improved. Also the community had given all the support to improve the social conditions of the disabled veterans.In the republic period according to the experiences, military health matters in and behind the front lines had been more organized to prevent the increase in the quantity of the sick soldiers and the veterans. Besides this, social and economic regulations about the veterans had been become extensive. Also in parallel to the progress of social state fact several legal arrangements had been carried out about veterans. Furthermore,in spite of the impossibilities, there had been serious progress in the veterans? welfare.
