Abstract (EN)
After the establishment of Turkish sovereignty over Anatolia, Armenians living together with Muslim Turks within the framework of the policy of tolerance have always been the religious target of the imperialist powers as part of their missionary work. Anatolia has religious importance for the Christian world; in addition, the fact that Anatolian lands contain many underground riches caused Westerners to penetrate the region through various methods. Undoubtedly, the most active state carrying out missionary work in Anatolia was America. America, which was the last to gain independence among the Western imperialist states and needed economic resources and trade routes, implemented sectarian assimilation of the Armenians in order to gain a share of Anatolia. In 19th century, American missionaries carried out various exploratory studies in Anatolia as part of the American Board missionary organization. As a result of these studies, the missionaries determined what methods should be used to bring religious domination over the Anatolian Armenians. The negative conditions of the period and the Ottoman Empire caused gaps in areas such as education and health. Missionaries, who carried out extensive activities in the field of education, Protestantized the Armenians of the Gregorian sect, thanks to the educational institutions opened at various levels and fields, from children to adults. Curriculums that arouse the religious and national spirit given in American colleges, which are especially high schools opened to the important regions of Anatolia and where Armenians live densely, reinforced the separatist thoughts of the Armenians and enabled them to revolt in the name of establishing a national state and disintegrating the Ottoman Empire.
