Abstract (EN)

Pakistan has been hosting Afghan refugees for more than forty years. Nevertheless, an endless welcome is hardly the case in Pakistan especially with the increase in terror attacks in Pakistan since 2008. Political parties and Pakistan Army called for repatriation of refugees back to Afghanistan. The study tries to find out the common frames used for Afghan refugees in Parliament, Facebook, twitter and press releases, whether the frames vary across political parties and whether the framing change over time or with change in institutional settings e.g. parliament, social media? The study examines the way Pakistani parliamentarians, mainstream political parties and other relevant actors such as Pakistan Army frame Afghan refugees in their discussions and the reasons behind possible variance. A qualitative content analysis is conducted on parliamentary debates, social media and in press releases to achieve this goal. The study covers a time period of more than a decade, from 2008 to 2020.
