Abstract (EN)

There are two meanings of the word history: history as the past (res gestae) and history as a description of past (historia rerum gestarum). The first one is called "History as Ontology" and the second one is called "History as Epistemology ". Besides, the second one is built on the first one. This thesis aims to spell out the famous philosopher Paul Weiss's thoughts about history and philosophy of history. According to Weiss, when history, refers to the history as a science, it is called "the written history" when referring past just as happened things and lived human activities it is called "the lived history". While looking for answers to the question "what is history" here, in this study, we will also try to show how little we know about Paul Weiss and his ideas about history. KEYWORDS: History, History as epistemology, History as ontology, Philosophy of History, Critical Philosophy of History
