Abstract (EN)

Abrasive profile discs (that are) used in glass trimming machines can be manufactured in our home country. However, polishing mats which are the complements of profile discs can not be manufactured in our country and are imported especially from Italy and Far East. This leads to external dependency in glass polishing mats which have high amount consumption. Development of polymer matrix composite materials for glass polishing mats to be used in high standards and performance is aimed in this study which is supported by Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology as part of 0768.STZ.2014 numbered Project. Polymer matrix composites (which are) reinforced with various combinations of abrasives having different properties, such as alumina (Al2O3), silicium carbide (SiC) were developed for glass polishing mats to be manufactured in the project. In this context, proper binder and filling materials were determined primarily by making preliminary examinations on binder and abrasive materials which are sold in market commercially via FTIR, DSC-TGA and SEM (investigations). Later on; abrasive particle amount, size distribution, morphology together with various matrix materials and compositions, composite and abrasive composite parameters were investigated. Proper method comparisons were executed by conducting series of analysis via Multiple Linear Regression and Support Vector Machine as well as conventional analyses due to the affluence of obtained data.
