Abstract (EN)

Although it is claimed that the concepts of religion and politics are separated as a result of the modern state understanding, the impossibility of this situation is expressed by the transformation of religion in the political field through the concept of political theology. Making religion a tool in the context of political theology has played a major role in changing the place of the sacred in politics. The sublimity attributed to the sacred has left itself to the power over time and has unquestionably legitimated the actions of the power. Thus, the concepts in the understanding of the modern state take their place as emptied and secularized theological concepts. The concepts that emerged in the political field, where religion is not completely destroyed, transform into different forms in the mutual expression of religion and politics in the context of political theology, helping movements that cause social and political changes to become ideologies that contain religion. After the transformation of religion with the traditional theological structure of societies, concepts such as civil religion and religious nationalism emerged with the characteristics of that society. Thus, these concepts, which are discussed through political theology, have been effective in the direction of both the political infrastructure and the society. It helps us to analyze the current politics in which it manifests itself, albeit in different forms. It is possible to see the transformation of religion and politics in terms of political theology in the historical process of the USA and in the discourse and political decisions of the US presidents. It is important in terms of political theology that the conflicts that arose between the church and the state, along with the constitutional period, in which forms religion manifests itself. God's holiness and inviolability are attributed to power over time, providing him with a space of sanctity and legitimacy. In this study, the history of the USA is examined in the context of political theology and the transformation of religion on politics is explained. The religion, which is evaluated periodically, continued to exist in interaction with the traditional theological concepts in the society. Thus, political theology helps us analyze this transformation and interaction. In this study, the interaction of religion on politics, the use of religious motifs and references to the sacred in the context of political theology in the opening speeches and political decisions of the US presidents are analyzed. Thus, it has been discussed with many speech examples that the religious arguments in the discourses of the presidents are effective in directing both the nation and the political structure.
