Abstract (EN)

This study aims to investigate the comparison of the effects of group-based pelvic floor muscle therapy and therapeutic yoga on women with postnatal stress urinary incontinence. The study included parous women aged 18-50 with stress urinary incontinence according to 3IQ. 52 patients were randomly divided into two. Pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) in different positions was given to group 1 (n=26), and therapeutic yoga (tYoga) was given to group 2 (n=26). Patients were evaluated with incontinence classification, incontinence severity index, pelvic floor muscle function assessment, pad test, incontinence quality of life, bladder diary, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), and global perceived impact. Both groups were educated about incontinence and received training twice a week for a total of 8 weeks. In both groups, there was an increase in the quality of life (p<0.001) and a decrease in the state anxiety level (p<0.001) according to the pre-and post-treatment values. In the pad test, a decrease in gram value (p<0.001), a decrease in incontinence severity (p<0.001), an increase in pelvic floor muscle strength (p<0.001), and an increase in pelvic floor muscle endurance (p<0.001) were observed. As a result of the study, pelvic floor muscle training and therapeutic yoga were found to be effective in reducing anxiety and improving the quality of life in women with postnatal stress urinary incontinence. However, the therapeutic yoga group was found to be more effective in improving the quality of life compared to the PFMT group (p<0.006). While the trait anxiety level did not change for the PFMT group, a significant decrease (p= 006) was observed in the tYoga group. PFMT and tYoga provide an advantage in reducing symptoms, improving quality of life, and reducing anxiety levels in women with SUI. Both PFMT and tYoga were found to be effective in reducing symptoms and improving quality of life in SUI.
