Abstract (EN)
The process that begins in the prenatal period and completes with the formation of motherhood in the first year after birth is defined as the acquisition of the maternal role. Mercer states that in order to gain this role, it is necessary not only to examine pregnancy and childbirth from a physiological point of view, but also to support the mother during the first year after birth and prepare for the role of motherhood. Although there are scales related to primiparous pregnant women and puerperant women in our country, there is no scale related to gaining the role of motherhood. The aim of the study is to determine the effect of training given to pregnant women who will become mothers for the first time with two different methods (face-to-face / web-based) on their gaining the role of motherhood. The study, which was carried out in two stages, was carried out in 2 Family Health Centers (FHC) affiliated to Gaziantep Provincial Health Directorate and Private Dr. Tuncay Yüce Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic with primiparous pregnant women between May 2021 and June 2022. In the first stage, the Maternity Role Gaining Scale was developed, and in the second stage, the effect of the education on gaining the motherhood role was evaluated by providing training to the pregnant women in their last trimester. In the first stage of the study, 402 mothers were sampled. In order to determine the validity and reliability of the scale, r-test was applied to 139 mothers selected by random sampling. In the second stage of the study, 42 pregnant women were included in the Web-Based Education Group, 44 pregnant women in the Face-to-Face Education Group and 47 pregnant women in the Control Group. Before the education, the Motherhood Role Gaining Scale was applied. 3-week training consisting of 3 modules was given to the pregnant women. The Maternal Role Gaining Scale was applied to the pregnant women again on the 40th day after delivery. As a result of our study, it was found that the Maternal Role Gaining Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool in determining the motherhood role of mothers. A 26-item scale was obtained in a 5-point Likert type with 3 sub-dimensions. It has been found that face-to-face education given to primiparous pregnant women is more effective than web-based education in gaining the role of motherhood.
