The study of decision making states about the delivery mode of primipar pregnants

Aim: The aim of this study is to look into the decision making states about the delivery mode of primipar pergnants and the effective factors.Method: This is a sectional and descriptive study. In the research , there were totally 600 primipar pregnants who were absent of cesarean indication from three different hospitals in İzmir ,whose ages were between 18 to 40 , and who were in 36 to 40 pregnancy week. Question Form, including the Demographic Characteristics ,Pregnacy stories and Decision Making States about The Delivery Mode, which is developed by the researcher and Mebourne Decision Making Stales Scale-II were used as a means of data collection. All the datas derived from the research were assessed in terms of descriptive criteria (number, percent, minimum, maximum,...), chi-square and one way variance analysis.Findings: It was confirmed that 81.3% primipar pregnants wanted to be closely involved with desicion making stage about their delivery modes.When we investigated the pregnants according to their delivery mode decisions, it was also confirmed that 67.2% pregnants decided to have a normal vaginal delivery ,13.7% pregnants decided to have cesarean delivery and 19.2 % pregnants were still ambivalent about their delivery modes.In addition to this ,it was stated that there was a meaningful difference between the ages of pregnants ,educational backgrounds,layman or professional,medical establishments , pregnancy weeks,their preferences about the delivery mode , the states of being asked how to make the delivery ,their desires for participation in the decision making stage about the delivery mode or not and the delivery mode decisions (p<0.05).It was stated that the individuals having a high point in the prudent decision making were undecided about their delivery modes and the individuals having a high point in the dilatory decision making decided to have a vaginal delivery (p<0.05)Conclusion: Because of having uncertainty about the Delivery Operation,the primipar pregnants wants to decide their delivery mode with a health guidence .It has been confirmed that the pregnants needs training about the correct delivery mode decision and they wants to be overrated in their delivery mode decision. So ,it is suggested that preparation approaches for the delivery including the pregnants needs must be applied.KEY WORDS: Primipar , Delivery Mode Preference ,Decision Making
