Investigation of the effects of probiotic use on ovalbumin-induced allergic rhinit in mother and rattlings

Abstract (EN)

Objective: This study was conducted to examine both the direct effect of probiotic use on allergic rhinitis symptoms and the effect of probiotic use during pregnancy on allergic rhinitis symptoms that may occur in offspring. Materials and Methods: 8 female rats were divided into 2 groups of 4. both groups were sensitized with ovalbumin to create an allergic rhinitis model. Starting 1 week before sensitization, a solution containing 1*10 CFU of Bacillus clausii spores was added to the drinking water of the experimental group daily. The control group was given normal drinking water. The differences between the two groups were recorded by evaluating the animals' amount of sneezing, nose scratching and nasal discharge on the 1st, 14th, 21st and 22nd days. Then, 2 male rats were added to the experimental and control groups and 28 rattlings were obtained after 21 days. The rattlings obtained were divided into 4 groups of 7 at the end of the 2nd month and an allergic rhinitis model was created using ovalbumin. Probiotics were added to the drinking water of 2 of these 4 groups, but not added to the drinking water of the other 2 of them. Allergic rhinitis symptoms were recorded on the 1st, 14th, 21st and 22nd days of the rats in these 4 groups. Findings: In our study, it was observed that the number of sneezing and nose-scratching movements was significantly lower in the groups that took probiotics than in the groups that did not take probiotics (p<0.003). It was seen that there was no significant difference for rattlings whether the mother used probiotics or not. (p>0.05). Allergic rhinitis ix symptoms were found to be less in rattlings in the group that received probiotics compared to the group that did not take probiotics (p<0.003). Result: Our study showed that the use of probiotics in the experimental model of allergic rhinitis in rats reduced the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. However, it was seen that giving probiotics to the mother rats before and during pregnancy did not make a significant difference in the allergic rhinitis symptoms of the offspring.
