The purpose of this research is to determine the affect of dietetics on preventing and reducing the malnutrition for cancer patients who take radioteraphy. The cancer patients who came to Inonu University Turgut Özal Medical center Radiation Onkoloji Unit between September 2012-March 2013 constituted the database of this experimental type of study. For this research, 74 of the patient were set as case group , and 73 of them as control group according to random sampling. The criterion of the patients examined in the research were the ones who have just started the radioteraphy, have been taking radiotheraphy more than two weeks, have no mental problems, have communication skills, and accepted joining the research. The data were got out of Patient Information Form, Subjective Global Evaluation Scale and Antropometrik Measurement. In the statistical evaluation of the outcomes numbers, percentages, and for independent groups t-test, variance, Chi-square, and McNemar Analysis Test were used. According to SGD scale results an important difference was found between the case and control groups a month later. Finally, it was determined that dietetics (nutrition education) had affects on reducing the malnutrition. For this reason, it was suggested that the nurses should regularly give dietetics to the patients taking radiotherapy in order to reduce the malnutrition.
