Turkey in the processes of referendum

Referendums, which aim to directly reflect the will of the people to the goverment and are typical instance of direct democracies, have been applied to take many decisions in Turkey. From 1961 to 2017 seven referendums were held in the history of republic of Turkey. Of these referendums, the 1961 and 1962 referendums were held for new constitutions prepared after military coups. 1987, 1988, 2007, 2010 and 2017 referendums were held for changes to be made in constitution provisions and just one of these referendums was rejected while the others were accepted. The last referendum was held by being voted for yes or no to transition to ''Party Presidency'' instead of ''Parliamentary System''. It affected pre and post referendums and also the next ones. At the same time, it also has as much effect on Turkish Political History. The book , local and national newspapers and so magazine archieves were analyzed during the research. The council of national unity together with the official reports of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, The Official Newspaper and the Republican State Archive Documents of the commision for the dissemination of the revolution were also used. Especially the referendum process in it, the ruling and opposition parties, as well as other associations and youth branches participating in propaganda posters, hand catalogues and banners issued by propaganda units of youth branches were examined, the impact of each referendum on itself and on other referendums has been tried to be analyzed with the perspective of historical objectivity.
