Abstract (EN)
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is referred as the association of amenorrhea, polycystic ovaries, hirsutism and obesity. The prevalence of PCOS is 5-10% in women of reproductive age. Insulin resistance with hyperinsulinemia and increase in luteinizing hormone (LH) dependent production of androgens in ovaries play a key role in its pathogenesis. PCOS diagnosis criteria have been classified according to National Institutes of Health (NIH) 1990, Rotterdam Consensus 2003, Androgen Excess Society and PCOS society 2009. In our study, we aimed to compare biochemical values, metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance of the patients with PCOS who diagnosed according Androgen Excess Society (AES), Rotterdam and National Institutes of Health (NIH) criteria. Our study was a retrospective study. Anthropometry, lipid profile, glucose, fasting insulin, oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and hormone levels of women diagnosed as PCOS according to Rotterdam diagnosis criteria (group 1 (n=200)), women diagnosed as PCOS according to Androgen Excess Society (AES) diagnosis criteria (group 2 (n= 182)), women diagnosed with PCOS according to National Institutes of Health (NIH) diagnosis criteria (group 3 (n = 180)) were evaluated in the study. Insulin resistance was estimated using Homeostasis Model of Assignment ? Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR). Significant waist/hip ratio (p=0,0001), LH/FSH (p= 0,041), AST (p=0,035), DHEA-S (p= 0,010), FG scoring (p= 0,007) were statistically significantly different between groups. Insulin resistance (HOMA-IR ? 3.8) prevalence was 35% for group 1, 33,0% for group 2, 37,2% for group 3. No statistically significant difference in insulin resistance was observed between groups. In conclusion; Rotterdam-PCOS stood out in metabolic syndrome; NIH-PCOS stood out in insulin resistance; AES-PCOS stood out in dyslipidemia in this study.
