An investigation of the impact of fear of violence in the healthcare industry on organizational commitment and the mediating role of professional alienation

This study examines the impact of the fear of violence on the levels of organizational commitment among professionals in the healthcare sector, as well as the mediating role of professional alienation. The research is based on the hypothesis that an increase in violence-related fear will decrease organizational commitment, with professional alienation playing a mediating role in this effect. The population of the study consists of healthcare workers serving in hospitals in Afyonkarahisar province. A sample of 236 healthcare workers was reached using the snowball sampling method. The collected data were analyzed using statistical software. In the study, reliability analysis, regression analysis, T-tests, and ANOVA tests were employed to examine the relationship between the demographic characteristics of healthcare workers and their fear of violence, organizational commitment, and professional alienation. Following the relationship analysis conducted with ANOVA, a Post-Hoc test was performed using the LSD technique. The analysis of the results revealed partial significant differences among healthcare workers in Afyonkarahisar in terms of their fear of violence, organizational commitment, professional alienation, and demographic characteristics (gender, age, education level, professional classifications, and work experience). Additionally, it was determined that the fear of violence influences organizational commitment and professional alienation. However, it was found that professional alienation does not play a mediating role in the relationship between the fear of violence and organizational commitment.
