Abstract (EN)

In our study, the results obtained by comparing the external ear measurements of a total of 150 healthy young individuals, consisting of 75 women and 75 men aged 18-24, with gender determination measurements were evaluated to examine the closeness of the ratios among anthropometric measurements to the gender determination value. For this purpose, the following measurements were taken: ear height, ear width, distance between the tragus and helix, distance between the tragus and antihelix, ear lobe height, ear lobe width, distance between the highest point of the ear and the tragus, distance between the lowest point of the ear and the tragus, distance between the rearmost point of the ear and the tragus, and tragus length. Demographic information and physical characteristics such as height and body weight of the participants were recorded. After the photographs of the volunteer individuals who participated in the study were transferred to a digital medium, measurements were made. As a result of the statistical models we developed, it was concluded that the gender of the individual could be predicted with 86% accuracy based on ear measurements. We believe that the obtained results could contribute to many fields such as anthropology, plastic surgery, forensic medicine, ergonomics, and biomedical engineering.
