Traces of the war: Economic, social and political dynamics of the Russia-Ukraine conflict

This study examines the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which began in February 2022, on global economic, social, and political dynamics. The heavy financial sanctions imposed on Moscow following the conflict have not only deeply affected the Russian economy but have also significantly disrupted the global economy, leading to sharp increases in the prices of essential goods such as energy and food worldwide. The primary research question addresses the relationship between the political and economic effects of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and how the political stances of leaders have shaped the economic outcomes in this crisis. The research hypothesis posits that the political aspects of the conflict in Ukraine have taken precedence over economic interests. This suggests that countries' decisions regarding the conflict have been shaped by political and strategic priorities, despite the economic costs involved. The method employed in this study involves a statistical data analysis of the economic impacts of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with a focus on assessing the primary causes of changes in energy prices and the prices of industrial and agricultural goods. In this context, the analysis examines how the increase in energy prices has intensified global inflationary pressures and how rising costs of industrial and agricultural products have affected economic growth and living standards. The findings indicate that the conflict has driven up energy prices, significantly impacting many countries, especially in Europe. This situation has also disrupted global supply chains, heightening the risk of a global recession. In conclusion, it is observed that the political dimensions of the conflict have shaped the economic outcomes and have paved the way for a redefinition of political alliances formed after the Cold War. Russia's stance in response to the direct and indirect sanctions reflects a strategic approach that transcends economic costs, increasing the risk of long-term instability in the global economy. These findings offer valuable insights into how economic interests may be balanced against political priorities in future crises of a similar nature.
