Abstract (EN)
In the modern period, reform movements have emerged that aim to return to the original sources of Islam and to understand it in accordance with its original form. In this respect, the hadith/sunnah, one of the two main sources of Islam, has become the object of criticism and defense in the modern period, and it has been thought that the hadith/sunnah should be reviewed and examined again. In modernism, one of the reform movements of the modern period, hadith/sunnah was viewed with a critical eye, the feature of hadith/sunna as the second source of religion has been largely eliminated. Another reform movement, in Salafism, showed an approach that glorified hadith/sunnah, both have been elevated to a position almost equal to the Qur'an. It is important for the science of hadith to compare the hadith understandings of salafism and modernism, which are two schools that unite in the discourse of returning to sources, and to determine the effects of these schools on the perception of hadith/sunnah in the modern periods. In the study, which consists of an introduction and three chapters, the concepts of Salafism and modernism are introduced in the first two chapters. The historical process of Salafism and modernism has been outlined. Then, the basic features of the understanding of religion of both schools are given. In the third chapter, the views of Salafism and modernism on hadith/sunnah are examined in a comparative way.
