An overview of China's space activities in the context of hard and soft power

Abstract (EN)

Power is one of the most used concepts in international relations theories. While the elements of military power mostly came to mind until the 1990s, now the concept of power diversified and soft power elements began to gain importance. China is one of the first countries that come to mind when it comes to the use of soft power. The study discusses China's goals of becoming a soft power in the context of economic. Particularly space is one of the important fields of activity that have global impacts and affect the soft power process. The definition of power and the soft power elements of China will be considered as priority in this study. Afterwards, the historical development of China's space studies, the units carrying out space activities, the budget of space activities, policies and objectives, bilateral and multilateral cooperation studies will be explained. This study seeks to understand the potential of soft power in China's space activities and to investigate whether both dimensions of hard / soft power are involved in China's space work.
