Abstract (EN)

Population is a significant source of tax and military for states in the past as well as today. In Ottoman Empire it was also an extremely important source of supply in terms of recruiting soldiers and collecting taxes. In this context, the Ottoman Empire conducted census called "tahrir" since its foundation and thus demographic records were kept. In this study the demographic structure of Sincanlı town in the Sanjak of Karahisar-ı Sahib is investigated within the bounds of possibility by using demographic records books numbered 1714 (including the first census results dated 1840/1841 AD, 1256 AH). The present study about Sincanlı town realized according to census records books is the first and mere sample. Key Words: Karahisar-ı Sahib, Sincanlı , assessment, census records book.
